Full River Red is based on a meeting between the Southern Song Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty. It tells the story of a group of righteous men who sacrificed their lives to eradicate evil.
Role & Responsibilities
Concept & Design Sketches
Working within the design team under the mentorship of Chen Minzheng, I contributed to the collaborative development of character concepts. My role involved refining intricate details and translating Director Zhang Yimou’s vision into executable design drafts. Our research focused on the archaeological reconstruction of military armour and the textural authenticity of lower-class women’s attire.
Armor Pattern Cutting & Construction
To accommodate different body shapes, we 3D scan actors to print custom mannequins for precise EVA armor patterning.
We also test various layouts and sizes—creating refined, elegant pieces for civil characters and tighter, more aggressive scale patterns for generals.
Textile Manipulation: Dyeing & Printing
We tested the dyeing effects on various cotton fabrics before making the final selection
The digital printing patterns were designed using Photoshop
while rubber stamps were utilized to create multi-colored prints that retain a distinct, handcrafted aesthetic.
Overseeing costume production for key cast members and footwear design, as well as managing the post-production breakdown and distressing process.
