Sisterhood— Lead Designer

Director: Guo Shimin (郭世民)

Costume Supervisor: Chen Minzheng (陈敏正)

Role: Leader Designer

Project Introduction :As the Lead Designer, I spearheaded the entire costume development process, from initial historical research to final garment production. The core design strategy involved reconstructing the collective identity of the "Samsui Women" (Red Headscarves) while orchestrating a systematic visual language that integrates functional workwear with multicultural Nanyang aesthetics.

Design and Research

Since Sisterhood is rooted in authentic modern history, the core of our design was not fiction, but restoration. Through an in-depth exploration of 1930s Nanyang and Sansui archival photography, oral histories, and museum collections, we strove to reclaim that vanishing female epic within every stitch and seam

Historical Reconstruction

The lower-class characters primarily wear short tunics made of coarse, hand-loomed fabrics.

The upper-class wardrobe is more diverse, dominated by Western-style silhouettes crafted from premium materials like silk, satin, and velvet.

Character-specific distressing applied across all tiers to authentically reflect social standing and lived experience.
